Stationers’ Hall

Restoring one of London’s ancient Livery Halls.

– Stationer’s Hall, London, EC4M.
– Phase 1
– Value: £150,000

Stationer’s Hall is a Grade I listed building, close to St Paul’s Cathedral. It is one of the few ancient Livery Halls remaining in the City of London, completed in 1673 after the Great Fire of London.

We were asked to carry out a series of internal special works for the building, with the restoration of the hall ceiling being our main task. We erected a bespoke birdcage scaffold, surveyed the soffit and sky surfaces of the ceiling, including all previous repairs and the current wad and wire system. We then installed over 2,000 new wad and wire fixings and repaired the current system.

During the process we also repaired historical plasterwork that was damaged and failing, cleaned painting on canvas and repainted the entire ceiling by matching paints to the original colours. Finally, we installed a new LED lighting system to illuminate the restored beauty of the Hall’s interior.

“The team at Rosewood undertook historic building repair works to the highest of standards. Their knowledge and experience of working on historic buildings was of enormous benefit before and during the programme. Thank you to all the team at Rosewood and we look forward to working with you again soon.”
